CROCHET ROUND PURSE PATTERN

Crochet Hooks: K/6.5MM & G/4.25MM

Yarn: Scrap cotton yarn (need two strands at once).  I used Lion Brand Yarns Re-Up recycled cotton & polyester blend yarn (Full Moon) for this.

PART ONE

NOTE: for this portion of the project, we will be working with two strands of scrap yarn simultaneously like they are one strand to create a bulky yarn.

Attach yarn to K (6.5MM) crochet hook using a Magic Circle (MC).

Row 1: CH 1 and place 6 SC inside the MC.

Row 2: Place 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of each st in the row, marking the 1st st with a st marker and creating a spiral pattern in the process (12 total SL st).

Row 3: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 2.* Repeat * around the row (18 total SL st).

Row 4: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 & 2, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 3.* Repeat * around the row (24 total SL st).

Row 5: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 3, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 4.* Repeat * around the row (30 total SL st).

Row 6: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 4, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 5.* Repeat * around the row (36 total SL st).

Row 7: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 5, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 6.* Repeat * around the row (42 total SL st).

Row 8: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 6, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 7.* Repeat * around the row (48 total SL st).

Row 9: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 7, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 8.* Repeat * around the row (54 total SL st).

Row 10: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 8, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 9.* Repeat * around the row (60 total SL st).

Row 11: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 9, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 10.* Repeat * around the row (66 total SL st).

Row 12: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 10, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 11.* Repeat * around the row (72 total SL st).

Row 13: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 11, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 12.* Repeat * around the row (78 total SL st).

Row 14: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 12, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 13.* Repeat * around the row (84 total SL st).

Row 15: *1 SL st in the FLO of st 1 – 13, 1 SL st in the BLO & FLO of st 14.* Repeat * around the row (90  total SL st).

Cut and tie off yarn.

Repeat Part One to create a second circle.

PART TWO:

Face the pretty side out for both circles and align the ending tails so they are on top of each other.  Attach ONE strand of yarn to G/4.25MM crochet hook using a slip knot.

Row 1: Insert crochet hook in the st to the left of ending tail, with pretty side of circle facing you.  Place 1 SC in this st, then CH 5.  On corresponding circle, in the st to the left of the ending tail, place 2 SC, then turn work.

Row 2: Skip the 1st 2 st of the row, then place 1 SL st in the BLO of the next 5 st (you should have 1 st remaining at the end of the row).  Skip remaining st, then on the other circle, place 1 SC in the st where you have already worked (beginning of Row 1), then 1 SC in the following st.  Make sure you aren’t accidentally twisting your work at this point.

Row 3:  Turn your work, skip the 1st 2 st, then place 1 SL st in the FLO of the remaining 5 st of the row. On other circle, place 2 SC in the next st that you haven’t already worked, then turn your work.

Row 4: Skip the 1st 2 st, then place 1 SL st in the BLO of the remaining 5 st of the row. On other circle, place 1 SC in the current st, then 1 SC in the next st that you haven’t already worked, then turn your work.

Rows 5 – ?: Repeat Rows 3 & 4 until you have worked around to the opposite point of the circle (your last row of Part Two should end at the point opposite the circle from where you started).

PART THREE:

Once you have joined your circle to the point opposite of where you started joining, then we are going to create the strap.

Row 1: At the end of the last row from Part Two, note whether you were working in the FLO or BLO.  CH 1, then work the opposite SL st from the previous row (so if you worked SL st in the BLO for the last row, then work SL st in the FLO for this row) (5 total SL st).  CH 1, turn.

Row 2: Work the opposite SL st from the previous row (so if you worked SL st in the BLO for the last row, then work SL st in the FLO for this row) (5 total SL st).  CH 1, turn.

Rows 3 – ?: Repeat Row 2 until you have created a strap of your desired length.

PART FOUR:

Working in the next set of points on the circles (the next set that you haven’t worked in), place 1 SC in the st that creates the “point”  and turn your work.

Row 1: Skip the 1st st and then work 1 SL st in either the FLO or the BLO (opposite of the previous row) in the remaining 5 st of the row.  Place 2 SC in the corresponding “point” st on the other circle and turn your work.

Row 2: Skip the 1st 2 st, then place 1 SL st in either the FLO or the BLO (opposite of the previous row) in the remaining 5 st of the row.  Place 1 SC in the current st in the circle, and then in the following st.  Make sure you are working away from your strap, not towards it for all of these rows.  Turn your work.

Row 3: Skip the 1st 2 st, then place 1 SL st in either the FLO or the BLO (opposite of the previous row) in the remaining 5 st of the row.  Place 2 SC in the next st on this circle and turn your work.

Rows 4 – ? Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until you make it back down to Row 1 from Part Two.

Turn the purse inside out.  Join the 1st and last row using SL st (video timestamp for this part here: 21:45)

Cut and tie off yarn.

PART FIVE:

Attach yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.

Working on the right-hand side of your purse, in the st where your strap and purse meet, place 1 SC st.  Then working along the edge of the purse between your straps, place 1 SC in each st.

When you make it around to the strap on the other side, working in the loops along the edge of the strap, place 1 – 2 SC st in the loops for each horizontal ridge until you get back down to where you started.

Place 1 SL st in the 1st SC of this part.

Cut and tie off yarn, hiding the tails on the inside of the purse.

Turn purse over and repeat these steps on the other side.
