Shell Beach Bag Crochet Pattern:

Crochet Hook: G/6/4.25MM
Yarn: Size 4, Medium Weight, 100% Recycled Cotton & Polyester Blend Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns Re-Up.

Attach yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.

Row 1: CH 25, turn.

Row 2: Starting in the BLO of the 3rd st, place 1 DC in the BLO of each st in the row (23 total DC).  Turn work TOWARD YOUR TAIL so you are able to work in the FLO of the 1st row and place 1 DC in each st in the row until you have 24 DC on this side.  This will create an oval pattern with 48 st in the row if you include the CH 2 at the beginning of the row.

Row 3: Starting a spiral pattern (make sure you mark the 1st st of the remaining rows), skip the next 2 st (this should be the CH 2 and the 1st DC from Row 2), and place 3 DC in the gap between the 1st & 2nd DC.  **Then skip the next 2 DC st, placing 3 DC in the gap.**  Repeat this around the row (72 total st).

Row 4: Skip the first 3 DC and place 4 DC between every 3 DC st, this should be in the gaps you created in the previous row (96 total DC st or 24 total SHELL st).

Rows 5 – 23: Work 4 DC in the gaps between sections of 4 DC, each row should have 96 DC or 24 SHELL st.

Row 24: Work 3 DC in the gaps between sections of 4 DC until you make it to the last gap.  In the last gap, place 3 SC instead of DC.  CH 1, turn your work in the opposite direction.

Row 25: Skip the turning CH st, then place 1 SC in the next 6 st.  From here, insert your crochet hook under the next st on the bag and one of the stitches of your handles.  Yarn over and drop the bag and handle loops, then yarn over and drop the last 2 loops for a SC.  Repeat this process, joining the bag and the handles using SC stitches until you have placed 24 joining SC.  Place 1 SC in the next 12 stitches of the bag ONLY.  Next, work 24 joining SC in the 2nd handle (just like you worked the 1st handle).  Place 1 SC in the next 6 st of the bag, and you should be at the end of the row.  Join by placing 1 SL st in the top of the 1st SC st.

Cut and tie off yarn.

Hide ending tail down the inside of the bag.
