DIY Crochet Beanie – Day 21 – Criss Cross Beanie
How to crochet a beanie? In this tutorial, I show you how to crochet a beanie that is extra warm and comfy and should fit most head sizes. This beanie works quickly and shouldn’t take you more than 2 hours to complete. The colors used in this pattern can easily be exchanged to fit whatever color scheme you like.

**1st extended criss-cross st of the row: CH 3, place 1 DC in next st, then place 1 DC in st directly before CH 3.
***Extended criss-cross st steps: Skip 1 st, place 1 DC in st 2 and st 3, then place 1 DC in skipped st.
****Decreasing criss-cross st steps: Skip 2 st, DC 2together in st 3 & 4, and 5 & 6, then place 1 DC in 1st skipped st.
Row 1: Create a brim that is 25 st deep and roughly 18’’ wide. Connect the two edges of the brim with SL stitches. Fold brim in half lengthwise. Section off the brim into four even sections using scrap pieces of yarn or st markers. CH 3 and place 28 extended criss-cross stitches around the edge of your brim (using ** and *** as a guide). SL st into top of CH 3.
Row 2: CH 3 and place 28 extended criss-cross stitches around the row (using ** and *** as your guide). SL st into top of CH 3.
Rows 3 – 8: Repeat row 2.
Row 9: ~ 5 extended criss-cross st, then 1 decreasing criss-cross st (using **, ***, and **** as a guide). ~ Repeat ~ around the row (24 total extended criss-cross st at end of row).
Row 10: ~ 4 extended criss-cross st, then 1 decreasing criss-cross st (using **, ***, and **** as a guide).~ Repeat ~ around the row (20 total extended criss-cross st at end of row).
Row 11: ~ 3 extended criss-cross st, then 1 decreasing criss-cross st (using **, ***, and **** as a guide).~ Repeat ~ around the row (16 total extended criss-cross st at end of row).
Row 12: ~ 2 extended criss-cross st, then 1 decreasing criss-cross st (using **, ***, and **** as a guide).~ Repeat ~ around the row (12 total extended criss-cross st at end of row).
Row 13: ~ 1 extended criss-cross st, then 1 decreasing criss-cross st (using **, ***, and **** as a guide).~ Repeat ~ around the row (8 total extended criss-cross st at end of row).
Row 14: ~ decreasing criss-cross st around the row (using ** and **** as a guide).~ Repeat ~ around the row (4 total extended criss-cross st at end of row).
Row 15: SL 2together in every st in row.
SL st into st opposite crochet hook.
Cut and tie off yarn.
