Crochet Basket – Nesting Basket Series – Large
This crochet basket tutorial is a part of a series of baskets that I am working on that will nest inside each other for more compact storage. These baskets are slightly more complicated than my normal pattern, but they don’t use as much yarn as my three-strand baskets, and they are very visually appealing.

*NOTE: this video has a precursor: How to Crochet a Flat Circle Using the Single Crochet Stitch: https://youtu.be/m9baER2VfGc
For the precursor video, crochet a flat circle containing 26 rows. The last row should have 156 stitches.
Row 1: CH 1, then place 1 SC in the BLO of each st in the row (including the st where you placed the SL st). SL st into the 1st SC st of this row.
Row 2: CH 1, then place 1 SC in each st in the row (including the st where you placed the SL st). SL st into the 1st SC st of this row.
Row 3: Working in the front loops created in Row 1, skip 1 front loop, then place 1 TR in the next front loop. Place 1 SC in the next 3 st at the top of the current row. *Yarn over twice, then insert your crochet hook back in the same front loop that you just worked. Yarn over and drop 2 loops at a time until 2 loops remain on your crochet hook, then skip 3 front loops, yarn over, insert your crochet hook in the 4th front loop. Yarn over and drop 2 loops, then yarn over and drop 3 loops. Working back in the top portion of the st, place 1 SC in the three stitches that frame the current front loop (1 behind, 1 on top, and 1 beyond).* Repeat * around the row. Join the last stitch of this row by yarning over twice, then insert your crochet hook back in the same front loop that you just worked. Yarn over and drop 2 loops at a time until 2 loops remain on your crochet hook, then yarn over and insert your crochet hook under the 1st TR of this row, then yarn over and drop all the loops on your crochet hook. SL st into the top of the 1st TR from this row.
Row 4: CH 1, then place 1 SC in each st in the row (including the st where you placed the SL st). SL st into the 1st SC st of this row.
Row 5: Repeat Row 4.
Row 6: Working in the stems of the peaks created in Row 3, *Yarn over twice, then insert your crochet hook under the two stems that form the 1st peak of this row (directly below your crochet hook). Yarn over and drop 2 loops at a time until 2 loops remain on your crochet hook, then yarn over insert your crochet hook under the two stems of the next peak. Yarn over and drop 2 loops, then yarn over and drop 3 loops. Working back in the top portion of the st, place 1 SC in the three stitches that frame the current peak (1 behind, 1 on top, and 1 beyond). *Yarn over twice, working under the same stems of the peak that we just worked, yarn over and drop 2 loops at a time until 2 loops remain on your crochet hook. Yarn over and insert your crochet hook under the two stems that form the next peak. Yarn over and drop 2 loops, then yarn over and drop 3 loops. Working in the top row, place 1 SC in the three stitches that frame the current peak (1 behind, 1 on top, and 1 beyond).* Repeat * Around the row. To join the last st, follow the steps for the two peaks, but work in the last peak of the row and the 1st peak of the row. The last 3 SC st should end at the top of the 1st peak. SL st into the next st.
Rows 7 – 49: Repeat the last 3 rows.
Rows 50 – 54: CH 1, then place 1 SC in each st in the row (including the st where you placed the SL st). SL st into the 1st SC st of this row.
Row 55: CH 19, skip 19 st, placing 1 SC in the 20th st. Place 1 SC in next 58 st, then CH 19 again, skipping 19 st, then place 1 SC in the 20th st. Place 1 SC in the next 58 st (this should get you to the end of the row).
Row 59: Place 19 SC around the chain stitches that form the 1st handle, then place 1 SC in each st between the handles. When you get back to the 2nd handle, place 19 st around the chain stitches that form the 2nd handle. Place 1 SC in the stitches between the handles.
Rows 60 – 64: Place 1 SC in each st in the row (following a continuous loop pattern).
Row 65 (to end): Place 1 SL st in the last 10 st of the row. Cut and tie off yarn. Hide tail on the inside of the basket, but not on the handle.
