DIY Crochet Beanie – Day 36 – Easy Flannel Checkered Pattern
How to crochet a beanie? In this tutorial, I show you how to crochet a checkered beanie from the top down using front and back post stitches. This pattern is extremely easy to follow. This beanie works quickly and shouldn’t take you more than 1 hour to complete. The colors used in this pattern can easily be exchanged to fit whatever color scheme you like.

Chunky Flannel Crochet Beanie Pattern:
Crochet Hook: K / 10.5 / 6.5 MM
Yarn: 4 Medium ~ 2 Strands ~ Big Twist Value brand (any yarn will work for this pattern)
Note: for this entire pattern, we will be treating the two strands of yarn like they are one, crocheting them simultaneously.
Magic Circle
Row 1: 7 SC inside MC, SL st into top of 1st SC st.
Row 2: CH 1, 1 SC in the same st as CH st, then place 2 SC in each st in the row (14 total st if you include the CH 1 st). SL st into top of CH 1.
Row 3: CH 1, place 2 SC in next st, then *1 SC in next st, 2 SC in following st.* Repeat * around the row (21 total st at end of row, including the CH 1). SL st into top of CH 1.
Row 4: CH 1, place 1 SC in next st, then 2 SC in the following st. *1 SC in next 2 st, 2 SC in following st.* Repeat * around the row (28 total st if you include the CH 1 st). SL st into top of CH 1.
Row 5: CH 1, place 1 SC in next 2 st, then 2 SC in the following st. *1 SC in next 3 st, 2 SC in following st.* Repeat * around the row (35 total st if you include the CH 1 st). SL st into top of CH 1.
Row 6: CH 1, place 1 SC in next 3 st, then 2 SC in the following st. *1 SC in next 4 st, 2 SC in following st.* Repeat * around the row (42 total st if you include the CH 1 st). SL st into top of CH 1.
Row 7: CH 3, then place 1 DC in each st in the row (42 total st if you include the CH 3 st). SL st into top of CH 3 st.
Row 8: *1 FRONT POST st in 1st 3 st, then 1 BACK POST st in following 3 st.* Repeat * around the row, alternating between FRONT and BACK POST stitches every 3 st. SL st into top of 1st POST st.
Row 9: Repeat like stitches, placing 1 FRONT POST st in the previous row’s FRONT POST stitches, and 1 BACK POST st in each of the previous row’s BACK POST stitches. SL st into top of 1st POST st.
Row 10: Reverse the stitches, placing 1 FRONT POST st in the previous row’s BACK POST stitches, and 1 BACK POST st in the previous row’s FRONT POST stitches. SL st into top of 1st POST st.
Row 11 – 12: Repeat like stitches, placing 1 FRONT POST st in the previous row’s FRONT POST stitches, and 1 BACK POST st in each of the previous row’s BACK POST stitches. SL st into top of 1st POST st.
Row 13: Reverse the stitches, placing 1 FRONT POST st in the previous row’s BACK POST stitches, and 1 BACK POST st in the previous row’s FRONT POST stitches. SL st into top of 1st POST st.
Rows 14 – 15: Repeat like stitches, placing 1 FRONT POST st in the previous row’s FRONT POST stitches, and 1 BACK POST st in each of the previous row’s BACK POST stitches. SL st into top of 1st POST st.
Rows 16 – 20: Following continuous loop pattern (where we won’t be starting or stopping each individual row, but instead this will act as more of a spiral), place 1 SC in each st in the row.
1 SL in next 10 st.
Cut and tie off yarn.
