How to Crochet a Flower

How to crochet a simple flower? In this crochet tutorial, I show you how to make a very simple, colorful flower that is the perfect addition to your next crochet project! This free pattern is great because you can use small amounts of scrap yarn, that would normally take up space in your yarn stash!

Neutral Medium Flower Pattern:

Crochet Hook Size: F/5/3.75MM
Yarn: 4 Medium weight, 3 colors
Attach Color A yarn to crochet hook using a Magic Circle (MC).
Row 1: CH 1 and place 6 SC inside MC.  SL st in 1st SC to join – skipping CH 1 (6 total SC).
Row 2: CH 1, place 2 SC in the BLO of each st in the row – 1st st is the current st where you placed the SL st.  SL st with 1st SC to join – skipping SL st and CH 1 (12 total SC).
Row 3: CH 1, place *1 SC in the BLO of st 1 and 2 SC in the BLO of st 2.*  First st is the current st where you placed the SL st.  SL st with 1st SC to join – skipping SL st and CH 1 (18 total SC).
Row 4 (Petals): CH 1, place 1 DC & 1 TR in 1st st – this is current st where you placed the SL st.  Place 1 TR, 1 DC & 1 SL st in st 2.  *SL st into next st and CH 1.  In the same st, place 1 DC & 1 TR.  In the following st, place 1 TR, 1 DC, and 1 SL st.*  Repeat * around the row (9 total petals).  Cut and tie off yarn.
Row 5 (Petals): Attach Color B yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.  Insert crochet hook in one of the FRONT LOOPS in Row 3 (try to line it up so you are working in a FRONT LOOP that corresponds to the center of one of the previous row’s petals.  Place 1 SL st in the FRONT LOOP, then CH 1 and place 2 DC in the same loop.  In the next FRONT LOOP, place 2 DC and 1 SL st.  *SL st in next FRONT LOOP and place 2 DC in same loop.  In next FRONT LOOP, place 2 DC and 1 SL st.* Repeat * around the row (6 total petals). Cut and tie off yarn.
Row 6: Attach Color C yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.  Insert crochet hook in one of the FRONT LOOPS created in Row 2.  Place 1 SC here.  Place 1 SC in each of the FRONT LOOPS (including SL st) and then SL st into 1st SC st (7 total SC).  Cut and tie off yarn.
Pull all tails to back of flower and use to attach to a project.
