How to Crochet a Wine Tote – DIY Bottle Gift Bag

How to crochet a wine tote?  In this tutorial, I show you how to crochet a bottle gift bag that is perfect for sparkling cider, wine, or champagne.  This makes for a perfect gift and can be accented with a flower, heart, or date to make it more personalized.

This crochet wine bottle tote tutorial is part of my two-skein Mothers’ Day challenge to see how many DIY gifts I can make with only two skeins of yarn.  For this challenge, I am using a variegated yarn that is 196 yards and a solid colored yarn that is 252 yards.

How to Crochet a Wine Bottle Gift Bag Free Pattern:

Yarn: 4 Medium
Crochet Hook Size: 5 / F / 3.75 MM
MC – Color A
Row 1: 12 DC inside MC.  SL in 1st DC.
Row 2: CH 2, 1 DC in same st, 2 DC in each st for the rest of the row (24 total st at end of row). SL in the top of CH 2 st.
Row 3: CH 2, *2 DC in next st, 1 DC in next st.* Repeat * for the rest of the row. SL in the top of CH 2 st. (36 total st at end of row).
Row 4: CH 1, 1 SC in each st for the rest of the row. SL in the top of CH 1 st (36 total st at end of row).
Row 5: Repeat Row 4.
Row 6: Repeat Row 4.  When you place the SL, yarn over with Color B.   
Row 7: CH 2.  Place 1 DC in the stitch directly behind the CH 2 stitch (working in reverse order).  Then working forward again, skip 1 st, placing 1 DC in 2nd st from CH 2 st.  Place 1 DC in skipped stitch (between current DC st and CH 2 st. * Skip next st, place 1 DC, then place 1 DC in skipped st.* Repeat *around the row.  (18 total criss-cross stitches at the end of the row).  SL into top of CH 2 st, yarning over with Color A.
Row 8: CH 1, place 1 SC in each st in the row (36 total st at end of row).  SL in CH 1 st.
Rows 9 & 10: Repeat row 8.
Row 11: Repeat row 7.
Rows 12 – 35: Repeat rows 8-11 six times.
Row 36:  Repeat row 4.
Row 37: CH 10.  Skip 9 st and place 1 SC in 10th st.  Place 1 SC in next 8 st.  CH 9.  Skip 9 st and place 1 SC in 10th st. Place 1 SC in next 8 st.  SL in 1st CH st from this row.
Row 38: CH 1 and place 1 SC in each st in the row, crocheting in the CH stitches of the previous row. SL in CH 1 st. (36 total st at end of row). 
Rows 39 – 41: Repeat Row 38.
Tie off yarn and all tails.  Turn work inside out.
