How to Crochet a Grinch Hat
How to crochet a Christmas beanie? In this crochet tutorial, I show you how to make a festive all-purpose Grinch beanie! This beanie is large enough to fit most adult heads and is perfect for the holiday season!

Grinch Beanie Crochet Pattern:
Crochet Hook: F/5/3.75MM
Yarn: 4 Medium, Big Twist Value brand, Varsity Red, Varsity Green, and White
BRIM:
Attach GREEN yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.
Row 1: CH 12, turn.
Row 2: Place 1 SL st in the BACK BUMP (3rd loop) of each st in the row (12 total SL st). CH 1, turn.
Row 3: Skip CH 1, place 1 SL st in the BLO of each st in the row (12 total SL st). CH 1, turn.
Rows 4 – ?: Repeat Row 3 until the brim reaches your desired width. For me, this was around 18-19 inches.
Fold the brim in half so the 1st and last rows are lined up. Make sure you have placed a CH 1 at the end of the last row, and also make sure that your crochet hook is on the opposite side of your starting tail. Place 1 SL st in the corresponding stitches (inserting your crochet hook in 1 st on both sides, then yarning over and pulling through all the loops for a SL st), until your brim is fully connected (12 SL st).
Cut and tie off yarn.
Section brim off into four equal parts using st markers or scrap pieces of yarn.
MAIN BEANIE:
Attach RED yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.
Row 1: Insert crochet hook in one of the available loops on the edge of the brim (somewhere near the starting and ending tails for the GREEN yarn). Place 1 SC st here. Working in the available loops at the top of each of the ridges, place 25 SC st in each of the four sections. This will require that you place 2 SC st in some of the loops. SL st into 1st SC to join.
Row 2: CH 1, place 1 SC in each st in the row – including current st. 100 SC at end of row. SL st into 1st SC st to join.
Rows 3 – 7: Repeat Row 2. Cut and tie off yarn at the end of Row 7.
Row 8: Attach WHITE yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot. Insert crochet hook in the 1st SC st (this is where you placed the SL st in the previous row). Place 1 SC in each st in the row. SL st into 1st SC to join (100 SC st).
Row 9: CH 1, place 1 SC in each st in the row – including current st. 100 SC at end of row. SL st into 1st SC st to join.
Rows 10 -14: Repeat Row 9.
Row 15: Attach GREEN yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot. Insert crochet hook in the 1st SC st (this is where you placed the SL st in the previous row), yarn over and pull up through the st, then insert the crochet hook up until the next st and yarn over and pull up through. Yarn over and drop all three loops on your crochet hook. Place 1 SC in the next 30 st, then SC 2together in the following 2 st (st 32 & 33). *Place 1 SC in the next 31 st, then SC 2together in the following 2 st.* Repeat * around the row. SL st in 1st SC to join (96 total SC st).
Row 16: CH 1, place 1 SC in each st in the row – including current st. SL st into 1st SC st to join (96 total SC st).
Row 17: CH 1, place *1 SC in st 1 – 30, SC together in st 31 & 32. * Repeat * around the row. SL st in 1st SC st to join (93 total SC st).
Row 18: CH 1, place 1 SC in each st in the row – including current st. SL st into 1st SC st to join (93 total SC st).
Row 19: CH 1, place *1 SC in st 1 – 29, SC together in st 30 & 31. * Repeat * around the row. SL st in 1st SC st to join (90 total SC st).
Row 20: CH 1, place 1 SC in each st in the row – including current st. SL st into 1st SC st to join (90 total SC st).
Row 21: CH 1, place *1 SC in st 1 – 28, SC together in st 29 & 30. * Repeat * around the row. SL st in 1st SC st to join (87 total SC st). Cut and tie off yarn.
Row 22: Attach RED yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot. CH 1, place 1 SC in each st in the row – including current st. SL st into 1st SC st to join (87 total SC st).
Row 23: CH 1, place *1 SC in st 1 – 27, SC together in st 28 & 29. * Repeat * around the row. SL st in 1st SC st to join (84 total SC st).
