*NOTE: this pattern has a precursor video, How to Crochet a SC circle using the Continuous Loop Method.  See that video here:  https://youtu.be/EMl6lOISY8g
Crochet a continuous loop circle for 12 rows, until you have 72 stitches in your last row.
Rows 1 – 27: Place 1 SC in the BLO of each st in the row.  Try to line up the last stitch of the last row with the 1st SC in the BLO from Row 1.  SL st into the next st.
Row 28: CH 2 and place 1 DC in the BLO of each st in the row – including the st where you placed the SL st.  SL st into the top of the 1st DC st and CH 60.
Loosen loop, remove crochet hook, and cut yarn.
Weave the chain stitch line between the DC from Row 28 – weaving every 2 st – then insert your crochet hook back in the loop and SL st into the top of the 1st DC again (this should be where you placed the previous SL st in Row 28).
Tie off yarn and hide tail.

Flap:

Attach yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.
Row 1: Working in the 1st FLO from Row 28 (above), place 1 SC, then place 1 SC in the next 29 st.  CH 1, turn.
Row 2: Place 1 SC in each st in the rows of your flap (30 in total). CH 1, turn.
Rows 3 – 14: Repeat Row 2.
Row 15: SC 2together in st 1 & 2.  Place 1 SC in each st in the row, and then SC 2together in the last 2 st (28 total st at end of row).  CH 1, turn.
Row 16: SC 2together in st 1 & 2.  Place 1 SC in each st in the row, and then SC 2together in the last 2 st (26 total st at end of row).  CH 1, turn.
Row 17: SC 2together in st 1 & 2.  Place 1 SC in each st in the row, and then SC 2together in the last 2 st (24 total st at end of row).  CH 1, turn.
Row 18: Row 15: SC 2together in st 1 & 2.  Place 1 SC in next 8 st, then place 1 DC in the next st, skip the next st, place 1 DC in the next st, then place 1 SC in the remaining st.  SC 2together in the last 2 st (22 total st at end of row).  CH 1, turn.
Row 19: Row 15: SC 2together in st 1 & 2.  Place 1 SC in each st in the row until you get to the CH 1 from Row 18.  In the CH 1, place 1 SC AROUND the CH st rather than on top of it (this will strengthen your button hole), and then SC 2together in the last 2 st (20 total st at end of row).  CH 1, turn.
Rows 20 – 24: SC 2together in st 1 & 2.  Place 1 SC in each st in the row, and then SC 2together in the last 2 st.  CH 1, turn.  At the end of row 24, you should have 10 total st.
Cut and tie off yarn.  Attach button to the backpack where the button hole lines up on the backpack.

Straps:

Attach yarn to crochet hook using a slip knot.
Row 1: Insert crochet hook in FLO of 1st st of Row 1 and place 1 SC, then place 1 SC in the next 4 st.  CH 1, turn.
Row 2: Place 1 SC in each of the 5 st.  CH 1, turn.
Row 3: Work over your tail and repeat Row 2 until the strap reaches 25 inches.
Join to the top of the backpack in the last row of SC in the BLO.  Join by placing 1 SL in the FLO of 5 stitches from the last row of SC st on the backpack.
