How to crochet a Farmer’s Market Bag?  In this tutorial, I show you how to crochet a produce bag that is great for taking with you to the store or farmer’s market.  Hung up, this crochet tote can also make for great wall storage.

This crochet bag is part of our Mother’s Day two skein challenge, where we see how many different crochet projects we can make with only two skeins of yarn (252 yards solid, 196 variegated).  All of the tutorials in this series are geared toward making and filling a Mother’s Day gift basket.  These tutorials should not take more than one hour to make, and most are around 10 minutes.

Farmer’s Market Bag Free Crochet Pattern:

Yarn: 4 Medium
Crochet Hook Size: 15 MM & 3.75 MM
Row 1: CH 20 with 15 MM crochet hook.
Row 2: 1 SC in BLO of each st (19 total st).  At the end of the row, rather than turning our work, place 1 SC in the FLO of current (last) st.  Continue placing SC in each FLO st for the rest of the row (19 SC in BLO, 19 SC in FLO).
Row 3: With a continuous loop pattern, place 1 SC in each st in your row, beginning with the 1st BLO SC from Row 2 (38 total st at end of row).
Rows 4 – 27: Place 1 SC in each st in row using continuous loop pattern. SL into last st of last row.
Row 28: Using 3.75 MM crochet hook, place 2 SC in each st in your row (including SL of last row – 76 total st at end of row.)
Rows 29 – 31: Following a continuous loop pattern, place 1 SC in each st in your row.  
Row 32 (Handles): Place 1 SC in next 13 st.  CH 16 and skip 12 st.  In 13th st from last SC st, place 1 SC.  Place 1 SC in next st and turn work.
Row 33: Place 1 SC in 2nd SC from hook.  Place 1 SC in all CH st.  Place 1 SC in the next 3 st and turn work. 
Row 34: Place 1 SC in 2nd SC from hook.  Place 1 SC in each st of the handle. Place 1 SC in next 2 st.  Turn work.
Row 35: Place 1 SC in 2nd SC from hook.  Place 1 SC in each st of the handle. Place 1 SC in next 3 st and turn work.
Row 36: Place 1 SC in 2nd SC from hook.  Place 1 SC in each st of the handle. Place 1 SC in next 23 st.  CH 16 and skip 12 st.  In 13th st from last SC st, place 1 SC.  Place 1 SC in next st and turn work.
Rows 37 – 39: Repeat Rows 33 – 35.
Row 40: Place 1 SC in 2nd SC from hook.  Place 1 SC in each st of the handle. Place 1 SC in next 10 st.  Place SL in the next 6 or so st and tie off your yarn.
