How to Crochet a Chunky Basket:

Yarn: 3 Strands any yarn, multiple sections of scrap yarn
Crochet hook: N / 15 / 10M
*NOTE: we are going to work three strands simultaneously like they are one strand for the entire pattern.  These strands can be any size, weight, brand, or type.
Attach yarn to crochet hook using a Magic Circle.
Row 1: CH 2 then place 12 DC inside the MC.  SL st into the top of the 1st DC st.
Row 2: CH 2 then place 2 DC in each st in the row – including the 1st st where you placed a SL st (24 total).  SL st into the top of the 1st DC st.
Row 3: CH 2 then *place 1 DC in st 1, 2 DC in st 2.* Repeat * around the row (36 total). SL st into the top of the 1st DC st.
Row 4: CH 2 then *place 1 DC in st 1 – 2, 2 DC in st 3.* Repeat * around the row (48 total). SL st into the top of the 1st DC st.
Row 5: CH 2 then *place 1 DC in st 1 – 3, 2 DC in st 4.* Repeat * around the row (60 total). SL st into the top of the 1st DC st.
Row 6: CH 2 then place 1 DC in the BLO of each st in the row. SL st into the top of the 1st DC st.
Row 7 : *Place 1 FRONT POST st in st 1 – 5, then 1 BACK POST st in st 6 – 10.* Repeat * around the row.  SL st into the top of the 1st FRONT POST st.
Rows 8 – 9: Repeat Row 7.
Row 10: *Place 1 BACK POST st in st 1 – 5, then 1 FRONT POST st in st 6 – 10.* Repeat * around the row.  SL st into the top of the 1st BACK POST st.
Rows 11 – 13: Repeat Row 10.
Rows 14 – 25: Repeat the alternating pattern of placing 4 rows of the same POST stitches, then reverse them. I repeated this pattern until I had 5 sections of post stitches.  The last section should only have 3 rows.
Row 26: CH 1 then place 1 SC in each st in the row.  SL st into the top of the 1st SC st.
Row 27: CH 12 and skip 12 st, then place 1 SC in the 13th st.  Place 1 SC in the following 17 st.  CH 12 and skip 12 st, then place 1 SC in the 13th st.  Place 1 SC in the following 17 st (this should get you back around to the 1st st).
Row 28: Place 12 SC st AROUND the chain stitches that form the 1st handle then place 1 SC in the stitches between the handles.  Place 12 SC st AROUND the chain stitches that form the 2nd handle then place 1 SC in the stitches between the handles.
Rows 29 – 31: Place 1 SC in each st in the row.
Finish off the pattern by placing 1 SL st in the next 5 – 7 st.
Cut and tie off yarn.
